With the release of the Beta version of Oxygen Content Fusion 6.0, we aimed to enhance the DITA documentation review and publishing processes for the advanced online collaboration platform.Īs we approach the full release, planned for October, we highly value your feedback and invite you to actively participate in shaping the final version of Oxygen Content Fusion 6.0. Since that is a critical requirement for creating an XML file as it is such a basic building block, I feel that this should become a priority that the creators of the Oxygen XML Editor would seek to address in their next release.Introducing Oxygen Content Fusion 6.0 (Beta) Most of these were fairly minor, with my chief complaint not being able to easily add an element. In my test drive, I also found some drawbacks to using the Oxygen XML Editor. Overall, there was a lot to like about the Oxygen XML Editor: the user interface, validating the file, the outline feature, helpful shortcuts, and the text and author views for creating XML files. I tried to find where this might be located but could not, even after checking extensively within the menus.

It was not user-friendly within the interface to add an element to my file.

Then I found the arrow clicked it and was then able to add my attribute. Initially I clicked on the line where I would have wanted to type the attribute, but nothing happened.

Was able to add an attribute somewhat easily to my sample file, but this was not instinctive in the interface.

Of the three working views for the editor (text, grid, and author), I did not see much use for the grid view.

Since my sample XML file was well-formed, I would have preferred some sort of message that my file checked out fine. This is because it is a submenu under validating the document which you can only reach by clicking the small triangle next to the validate icon.

The check for the well-formedness of a user’s document is much less intuitive than the validity check.

The shortcuts at the top of the interface such as save, spell check, and find are useful and simple to use.

The author view displays the individual tags well. The text view seems to be the most helpful for showing where you are within the file as it highlights your position in blue and shows the overall structure of the XML file.

The editor has three views: text, grid, and author.

The outline feature is quite helpful for seeing the individual elements that comprise the XML file.

Oxygen correctly identified that I had no document type definition (DTD) and provided an error message with assistance for how to add a schema or DTD.

Validating the sample XML file that I copied and pasted was fairly intuitive with the use of the validating icon (a check mark over the document).

The user interface is clean and inviting.
